I think the main character is brave because she does brave things and never gives up in the story.

The main character shows true courage — not by avoiding fear, but by facing it. When she walks into the dark forest alone in Chapter 5, she admits she is scared, yet keeps walking. This shows that bravery in the story is defined as acting despite fear, not the absence of it.
