Live discussion and teacher feedback turn reading into clear, evidence-based writing.

The 5-Step Method

From Reading to Written Response

Every class moves your child through the same five steps — so reading always leads to real writing.

Read

Students read carefully selected books and passages at their exact reading level.

In class Teachers pre-teach key vocabulary and set a clear purpose for reading.

Think

Students notice meaning, structure, and text evidence as they read.

In class Guided annotation and "why do you think so?" prompts anchor thinking in the text.

Discuss

Live conversation helps students explain ideas clearly and hear other perspectives.

In class 1-on-1 or groups of 3 — every child speaks up in every class.

Write

Students turn thinking into sentences, paragraphs, and short literary responses.

In class Writing is anchored in the text they just read — not general opinion prompts.

Improve

Teacher feedback helps students revise — sharpening ideas, evidence, and language.

In class Written feedback on every draft, plus a short revision conversation.
Inside 45 Minutes

What a Live Class Looks Like

A single 45-minute block moves from warm-up to writing to review — every part with a clear purpose.

0 min45-Minute Class45 min
  1. 0 – 5 min
Warm-up. Quick check-in on last week's reading or writing homework.
  2. 5 – 15 min
Guided reading. Teacher reads with students, pausing to model close reading and vocabulary in context.
  3. 15 – 30 min
Discussion. Guided questions push students past retelling into meaning, character, and evidence.
  4. 30 – 42 min
Writing. Live writing time with teacher prompts — sentence-level for Foundation, paragraph or essay for Breakthrough.
  5. 42 – 45 min
Wrap-up. Teacher previews next class and assigns a short writing task for teacher review before the next session.
What Makes This Different

Reading Class, Rebuilt for Real Growth

Live discussion, not silent reading

Every class includes real conversation about the text — students think out loud, not alone.

Writing anchored in text evidence

Students respond to what they read, building the evidence-based writing schools expect.

Every draft gets a revision

Teachers give specific written feedback, and students rewrite with a purpose — every time.
